Art Lab is a discussion group where artists have gathered since 2023 to talk about art and art-making. We meet at my home studio to explore questions about the art world, art-making processes, observation, non-judgemental language, slow looking, and much more.
Art Lab isn't a critique group or workshop. It's a space where artists examine art and our experiences with art from every angle - conceptual, technical, emotional, and philosophical. The cross-pollination of ideas across disciplines fosters insight and clarity that is often surprising and always valuable. Held in a mutually supportive environment, our conversations offer meaningful connection grounded in shared creative purpose.
Over time, our group has built a foundation of trust that supports honest conversation and encourages each person to speak openly about their work and ambitions. To maintain this supportive environment, we aim to keep the group small.
However, we recognise that art-making can be isolating. As uncertainty is a familiar part of any creative practice, the need for shared conversation feels even more important.
That's why we we’ve decided to host four Art Lab Extended sessions each year. These extended sessions are an investment in the wider artistic community. They are for artists who are curious and seeking connection, showing how easily the Art Lab model can be adapted and created within existing networks. Great art grows from great conversations, and great conversations thrive on diverse voices and perspectives.
Whether you're an emerging or established artist or someone who loves art, these discussions have room for your voice.
The first Art Lab Extended will take place 10.30am on Saturday 6th September at the Caboolture Regional Art Gallery, with others at different locations to follow throughout the year.
Sessions will be held in a small group setting to support meaningful conversation, so places are limited. Book here to reserve your ticket
